Ian was inducted into the Rotary Club of Pennant Hills in 1995 and in less than a year was elected to the Club Board as Vocational Service Director.
He also served as Community Service Director at Pennant Hills. After transferring to the Rotary Club of Laurieton in 1998, he has served as the Club President twice, Treasurer twice and Club Secretary three times and has experienced all Club Director positions. He has been the Public Officer since 2002, Counsellor and host parent to Youth Exchange students. He was recognised as a Paul Harris Fellow in 2004.

At District level, Ian was the Team Leader for a Group Study Exchange team to Chile in 2006 and District Chair of Group Study Exchange in 2007 - 2008. In 2014 -
2015, Ian served as the Assistant Governor Cluster 3 whilst concurrently carrying out his duties as DGN.

Ian has been married to Barbara for over 40 years. They raised three children and have six grandchildren. For the past 19 years, Ian and Barbara have lived on a property at Lorne,
inland from Laurieton and have raised beef cattle and alpacas in partnership with their son.

Originally a Sydney boy, Ian’s passion was always to join the NSW Police Force which he did and reached the rank of Detective Sergeant. He served at Bankstown, 21 Special
Squad, Armed Hold - Up Squad, Drug Squad and saw country service at Goulburn for 5 years. Whilst in Goulburn, Ian joined Apex which he enjoyed for a number of years. On
returning to Sydney, Ian was posted to Parramatta Detectives and later to the Police Internal Affairs Branch. His career was mainly in the area of Criminal Investigation.

Ian joined the Army Reserve in 1973 as an Officer Cadet and later graduated as a Lieutenant in 1975. This was concurrent with his Police Service. Serving continuously in the Army undertaking both full time and reserve service for the next 26 years, he ultimately left the Police Force to further his military career. He reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel
and whilst an Infantry Officer also served in postings in Training, Logistics, Tactics and Staff Officer. He served as the Second in Command of an Infantry Battalion and Commanding
Officer of 2 Units, the Regimental Training Unit and the Officer Cadet Training Unit producing Officers for the Army Reserve.

Ian studied Accountancy, qualified as a Licensed Real Estate Agent, Stock and Station Agent and Business Agent along the way. He also conducted Fraud and Audit Investigations for the Department of Education and Training whilst serving in the Reserve.

Whilst living in Laurieton he was elected as a Director of the Laurieton United Services Club and has served as a Director of that Board in two sessions, totalling over 20 years. The
Scout movement featured strongly in Ian’s early life, firstly as a Scout and then as a Leader. His hobbies include caravanning, boating and fishing when time permits.

Ian’s vision for Rotary in District 9650 is to strengthen existing Clubs, create a renewed interest in service to the community, to promote the public image and the relevance of Rotary. He will continue to support the Rotary Foundation a nd have some fun along the journey, to make a difference to his community, the country and Rotary International.
