David joined the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie in 1998 and served as President in 2006-2007 under the District Governor, Laurie Barber. After that term, David served as Assistant Governor for three years and has held several District leadership roles including Vocational and Chair of Rotary Youth Leadership Award for the last eight years.

He was instrumental in instigating the Tsunami Appeal for Cluster 3 and reinstating the Carnival of the Pines festival as Rotary projects. Serving as an elected local Council representative for ten years, David believes Rotary is an ideal avenue for Service above Self.

David has academic qualifications in Biological science, horticulture and Post Graduate qualifications in Organisation Communications, Public Relations and Behavioural Science.

In his work life, he has worked as a research officer with the CSIRO as well as a Primary Industries Faculty Manager at TAFE. David recently retired as General Manager of a large disabilities organisation on the Mid North Coast.

On the sporting field, David played representative Cricket and Rugby League and served for four years as a Director of Penrith Panthers Rugby League Club and has held the position of President of Port Macquarie Panthers for over ten years.

David enjoys both freshwater and saltwater fishing, bushwalking, photography and kayaking.

He owns a mixed produce farm where he and his wife, Heather, breed cattle, boar goats as well as an apiary of award winning honey.

As a community leader, David has also held positions of Chair of the local Life Education, Wiggay Aboriginal Cultural Park, Manager of Radio Rhema and has been a Justice of the Peace since 1982.

In 2011, David became aware of a rare blood disorder that affected people in Australia who had little or no support or advocacy. He became Chair of the World Research Committee based in Boston, USA.  He then founded, and still chairs the Australasian support organisation that advocates and supports those with this rare disease. Finally, as a direct descendent of Mary Wade, acclaimed by many to be the Matriarch of Australia, David holds the position of Deputy Chair of the Mary Wade Family Association.
