Profile of District Governor Nominee Rob Anderson

Rob has been a Rotarian since 1999 when he was invited to join the Rotary Club of Katoomba when he took up the Managers position of the NAB in the town. Rob worked for NAB for 26 years before taking a redundancy and commencing his own business with a Bank of Queensland Franchise in Coffs Harbour. Seeking another challenge Rob Left the BOQ and is now working as a business consultant for Beyond Now Solutions, a business Accounting and advisory firm based in Coffs Harbour.

Born in Seymour Victoria, Rob is the oldest of 3 children. Rob’s father was in the army for most of his formative years, retiring to Brisbane in the late 70’s which is where Rob completed his schooling. Rob has just completed a diploma of management and hopes to acquire other qualifications relating to his new vocation in the coming years.

Once Rob had joined the Bank he undertook the nomadic life of a Banker and he has worked all over Qld and NSW during his banking career. The same could be said for Rob’s community activities. Prior to joining the family of Rotary Rob has held leadership positions in Apex, Toastmasters International and numerous school P&C  organisations as well as school councils.

Rotary positions include most portfolios including treasurer both in Coffs Harbour and Katoomba as well as secretary of Coffs Harbour. Rob Served as Club President of Coffs Harbour in 2006/2007 under District Governor Laurie Barber.

Rob was for 2 years the district Chairman of ROMAC and is in his second year as assistant Governor for the Coffs Coast.

He is also the founding Treasurer for Shearwater Lodge, a Rotary accommodation project in Coffs Harbour, a position he still fills today.

In seeking the nomination for District Governor the motivation was to be able to apply some leadership skills for the benefit of the district as well as all of the learning’s of the wider world of possibilities in Rotary. The original idea of seeking positions at a district level was to stick ones head above the parapet of my local club to see what the wider world of Rotary has to offer. I have never regretted the decision to do so as I have learnt more since doing this than I have in the years preceding the decision.

Rob is now on the conveyor belt with 2 years till taking the office of District Governor following Brian Beesley. It is all about getting to know about the district more intimately and helping Rotarians in achieving for their communities both at home and abroad.
I am a strong believer in the axiom “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it “but I am also always on the lookout for a better way to do something. The saying “this is how we always do it” is one of my least favourite sayings.

My hope for the years ahead is that we continue to forge a strong and cohesive District that continues to live and act by the 4 way test and giving service above self.

This will be achieved by strong vibrant Rotary Clubs that value their shared ideals and diversity and embrace it.
I am quite excited at the prospect of taking this honour on board- 2 years will fly by I’m sure.
