HONEYWELL ENGINEERING SUMMER SCHOOL (HESS)
and THE SIEMENS SCIENCE EXPERIENCE

This committee promotes and selects students for

The HESS program which brings 80 students entering Year 12 from NSW and the ACT to a six-day school living and studying at the campus of the University of Sydney.  

  • The Summer Science Experience which provides some 3,000 places at 30 universities and technical institutes to encourage students entering Year 10 to consider science and technology as interesting and worthwhile career choices.

    The various RYAG programs are developed and run by clubs to provide vocationally oriented experiences for high school students.

    ROTARY SUMMER SCIENCE SCHOOLS 

    Rotary promotes and supports four Summer Science programs for students who are considering a career in Science. These programs are:

    1. Siemens Science Experience (SSE)
    2. Australian Student Mineral Venture (ASMV)
    3. Honeywell Engineering Summer School (HESS)

    Siemens Science Experience (SSE); the purpose is the foster an early interest in science as a career with a program of hands-on science activities, for current Year 9 students at a cost of $105 per student.

    Applications obtained at www.scienceexperience.com.au with a closing date for the Uni NSW Sydney 9-11 September 2009 program is 7 August 2009 and a closing date for the University of New England 12 – 14 January 2010 program in NSW is 30 October 2009.     Australian Student Mineral Venture (ASMV); The purpose to introduce students to a career in the mineral industry with a program of mine and plant visits, geological excursions, lectures and exposure to scientific innovation and research. For more information: www.ausimm.com.au

    Honeywell Engineering Summer School (HESS); The purpose is to give students a better understanding of engineering through a 6 day program gaining insights into a range of engineering disciplines. It is for 80 students who have just completed Year 11 in ACT or NSW with the students living at Sydney University Village. The program runs in December annually with applications open from May 2009 at www.sydney.ieaust.org.au/hess.html.  

    Indigenous Australian Engineering Summer School (IAESS); The purpose is to introduce Indigenous students to the importance of Engineering and Indigenous representation in this profession. The program has talks, site visits, hands-on project work, team work and practice in communication, as well as meeting engineers. It is for 20 students entering Years 10, 11 and 12 in 2009 and is a 5 day live-in Summer School at the University of NSW in Sydney. The School is held in January, 2010 at no cost to the student.
