DOROTHEA MACKELLAR MEMORIAL POETRY COMPETITION
The Dorothea MacKellar Memorial Poetry Competition recognises Mackellar's contribution to Australian literature. The aim of the competition is to capture the imagination of every student in Australia, inspiring him or her with a passion for poetry.

This committee is responsible for
  • the promotion of the Interact program by encouraging Rotary clubs to become involved in the formation and operation of Interact clubs.
  • Interact is a Rotary sponsored international program for service minded young people between 15 and 18 years or in the final four years of their secondary schooling.

    The committee
  • Organises and arranges an assembly, which simulates the workings of the United Nations The aim of MUNA is to build bridges of goodwill for world peace and understanding in the minds of youth as they research, debate and speak to a wide range of contemporary world issues.

  • NATIONAL YOUTH SCIENCE FORUM (NYSF)
    This committee is responsible for
  • the promotion, selection and briefing of talented Year 11 students from the district to attend the two-week national science program
  • during the summer vacation in Canberra. The program provides a unique experience for some 280 of Australia's best students who are interested in science.

    The aim of this competition is
  • to broaden the year 11 student's public speaking experience. The speaking topic is of the competitor's own choice but must relate to one or more of the principles in the Rotary 4-way test.

    This committee promotes driver awareness by young people to help save lives on the road. RYDA is a community Road Safety Program for Youth which targets awareness and attitudinal change. Over 100,000 students have already attended RYDA in Australia.
    “Young people aged 17-25 represent less than 15% of the population yet account for over 25% of motorists killed or seriously injured in road crashes.”

    ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARD (RYLA)
    It is the responsibility of this committee to
    •  organise and conduct a one-week residential seminar for young people aged between 18 and 24 years. Awardees study and discuss a wide and balanced range of topics to develop leadership, good citizenship, self- confidence, dignity and self-respect.

    This committee manages the inbound and outbound Youth Exchange Program of the district. It is responsible for

    YOUTH EXCHANGE PROGRAM (YEP) - SHORT TERM
    AUSTRALIA - NEW ZEALAND EXCHANGE

    This committee is responsible for matching exchange students of District 9650 with students from New Zealand. Each student spends fourteen weeks (14) living in the home of, and attending school with, their exchange student partner. The exchanges are “direct exchanges” (the family of the exchange student going overseas from here will host a son or daughter of the host in the other country).

    This committee facilitates and coordinates the short-term exchanges and matched student exchanges of the district.
    The exchanges are “direct exchanges” (the family of the exchange student going overseas from here will host a son or daughter of the host in the other country) and are of four to six weeks in duration.

    YOUTH INSEARCH
    The committee
  • assists clubs which have identified young people (14 to 20 years) who can benefit from attending Youth Insearch camps.
    Participants of these camps are able to draw on experiences from each other and establish new goals and directions.
  • Following a determination of the D9650 Management Committee at its meeting 20 March 2009, the Rotary Club of Tamworth North coordinates this Youth Insearch             program on behalf of District 9650.
